Last week I talked about joining the Kimodameshi 2025 challenge. That piece was made before the real body of work had begun. It is now March, and I have a week’s worth of drawings to show for it (plus some preparatory stuff from the last week of February). I have not been eliminated! Yay, I read the rules!
The above painting was made for one of the daily quests, asking you to draw or paint a kind of figure outside your norm. I chose a beautiful model from the references thread and decided to invest in rendering her as a painting. Made with no sketch, eyeballing and refining shapes. As frequently happens with figure work, I straightened the pose up a bit, but digital tools let me fix that readily enough.
My goal in the event is to improve my gesture drawing, aiming at being able to do credible figures in 1-2 minutes. The more you push yourself for speed, the better you train your brain to look for important landmarks in the construction of a figure.
